so everybody put your best suit and dress on, let's make believe that we are happy for just this once

ugh, new year's...

ok enough complaining, perhaps if i had a more positive attitude towards it i would enjoy it more. but it seems that i just seem to focus on all the stuff i didn't do, didn't accomplish etc. perhaps it is really time to look ahead.

no resolutions, i'm not even sure i want to make any "endeavours"...

there are things i want to be better at, there are situations i want to improve , there are things i want to do and places i want to go. but the same is true of any year.

2009 has had some challenges for sure. still facing them. wanting badly to get past them. all in good time. all in good time.

wishing everyone a safe, happy, healthy, and prosperous 2010.

oh, and don't sweat the small stuff. its not worth it.

if you like it then you should have put a ring on it

not just the end of a year, the end of a decade so every one and his dog is seemingly coming out with a best of/worst of list of some sort.

here's mine.

best albums: Cold Roses (Ryan Adams); Fever to Tell (Yeah Yeah Yeah's); Funeral (Arcade Fire); Lifted Or The Story is in the Soil, Keep Your Ear to the Ground (Bright Eyes); I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning (Bright Eyes); Transatlantacism (Death Cab for Cutie) .

best movies: Kill Bill vol 1 and 2; Lord of the Rings Trilogy (nope not kidding); Little Miss Sunshine; In Bruges; Inglorious Basterds; Gladiator; Walk the Line; Garden State; Almost Famous; In America; Juno; The Bourne Trilogy; Memento.

best tv shows: Lost; Six Feet Under; Gilmore Girls; Glee; Arrested Development (which i never would have watched except for Jay so thank you); Mad Men; Dexter; Friday Night Lights.

personally, a huge decade. my twenties came and went. Jay and i got married, bought a house, got cats, Jay joined the forces we had one wonderful child, we sold and bought a new house and had a second wonderful child.

on a completely different note. i don't care if they were trying to preserve him for the post season - ruining the Colt's perfect season by pulling Peyton blows. that's right, blows, as in chunks.

there's gonna be a heartache tonight, a heartache tonight, i know

oh balls. i was video taping Nate singing along to the Eagles (as covered by Birds of Prey) in the car today but dummy me wasn't actually taping.

actually most of the Christmas video i thought i was taping, i wasn't and vice versa. perhaps i should have read the manual first. oh well.

back in Ottawa after very very hectic and somewhat stressful Christmas at Mom & Dad's. had a couple of good visits with Ange and Colleen but as always the kids were out of sorts. they never sleep well the first night which just seems to put me in a foul mood. Jay was a bit cranky too so Christmas day was kind of nightmarish or at least it seemed like it at the time. in retrospect it wasn't really all that bad.

i never ever thought in a million years that i would reconsider going to Deacon at Christmas but i have to say this year has planted the seed so to speak. we'll see. perhaps with time and a little perspective.

that being said. we are so incredibly blessed and i'm thankful that were were able to gather as a family and share good food and lots of wine! the kids had lots of presents under the tree and i didn't make out too badly myself.

this is also a long time coming too but i think that i have finally realized that Mom & Dad's is not my home. this is. and, as nice as it is to be able to go there and visit i was very thankful to come home today.

well, Nate is calling me to read Green Eggs and Ham.

hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas.

the stars are brightly shining

apparently i haven't had time to post this week though i don't recall being exceptionally busy. just nothing exciting to say i guess.

well, i still don't have anything particularly exciting to say. Arlene's camera was stolen (we presume) so there are no more pics of last weekend's festivities. such a shame as many people rely on her to record the moment including us. so, the pre-party pics in the hotel are all we have.

you know what, maybe that's not such a bad thing ;)

tonight is Jay's Christmas party. won't be quite as glitzy as i think we can wear jeans and one of us has to drive so it won't be quite as wild as last week.

got the rest of the Christmas shopping done yesterday. was sad that Chapters was sold out of The Grinch. had to settle for Green Eggs and Ham. (Nate also gets Cat in the Hat with his new Tag reading system).

we're heading to Deacon Wed morning though i'm debating possibly Tues night but i would really have to get in gear and i'm not sure how possible that is. which reminds me i still have to find a cat sitter.

well, time to go get my coffee and possibly get the cookies in the oven.

gonna find out who's naughty or nice

last night put me on the naughty list for sure...

work Christmas party last night. free food plus free drink = good times, too good perhaps. trying to remember the last time i felt this crappy the day after. my tolerance for alcohol is definitely not what it used to be.

we did end up sleeping until 9:17 though we probably didn't get back to the hotel until around 1:00am so i'm not really sure that counts as sleeping in. i probably could have dozed off but i felt a desperate need for a wonderfully greasy McDonald's hash-brown and egg McMuffin and i wanted to be sure to get their before the 11am cut-off.

fortunately we've had a pretty easy day today. both kids had naps. i even managed to muster enough energy to make 4 batches of cookies.

if only the blisters on top of my feet would stop burning...darn dancing shoes! and the one security guard was a shoe nazi. he kept telling all the women to put their shoes back on. seriously, are they that afraid of being sued? i mean, i would have gladly signed a waiver. grrr.

one thing i like about our Christmas party though most people just shrug it off or roll their eyes is that they actually have someone give thanks before we eat. its a small gesture but it means a lot.

ok - i gotta let Nate "type some letters" now.

oh, pics will be on Facebook provided Arlene gets her camera back...

santa bring my baby back to me

listening to Christmas music on tv. Elvis is fun.

busy day again. more Christmas shopping done. only my Mother and Grandma to buy for now and i know what i'm getting them so its easy - just gotta wait until the bank account is replenished :)

oh and Jay - but i know what i'm getting him too.

getting excited about the work party tomorrow night and spending the night away from the kids. hopefully i won't worry too much. i think i'll be fine - once i have a glass (or 4) of wine i'm sure i'll forget all about them!

anybody care to place a bet on what time we end up sleeping in to on Sunday? i have this feeling that despite the lack of crying or banging/dropping of toys my internal clock won't let me sleep much past 7:30. we shall see.

i gave up on the spanx. i was going to wear them because my dress is a bit clingy and things are not as taut as they used to be but they weren't super comfortable and you could see the seam down the middle. they did however work in terms of sucking stuff in. actually they sucked my butt in a little too much! so back to the store they went.

i'm also getting my make-up done at MAC tomorrow which will be money better spent - at least you can see it. i'm going to ask for sexy and dramatic but not so dramatic as to draw comparisons to Lady Gaga.

ok - time to see what might possibly be on tv on a Friday night.

all my friends are murder

well, we have snow. lots of it. i'm glad and annoyed at the same time. funny how that works.

i took tomorrow off again to finish up Christmas shopping etc. got the firm party on Saturday night. looking forward to it. got some spanx for under my dress. looking forward to spending a night away from the kids with Jay.

joy to the world

busy but fun weekend.

i took Friday off and did groceries in the morning and then accompanied Jay while he got inked (check out his facebook pics). Saturday morning we cleaned and I baked and then we had company from about 2:30 until 8:30. a few friends and two of Jay's brothers.

it was a nice though rather tame evening.

today we went to church in the morning and then Jay's mom and step-dad were supposed to come for dinner for our pre-Christmas Christmas. only Fran came because James hurt is back or something which was too bad.

Nate got a remote-control front-end loader from his uncle Josh (and Aunt Lauren) and a new train set from Grandma-ma (i have no idea how you spell it in French though i know that is absolutely wrong!) and Grandpa James.

Yesterday was all about the front loader - today was all about the train.

Kid is starting to think that anytime someone comes to visit he gets a present!

this week at work we have the building's management's breakfast and our department luncheon and then next Saturday is the BLG Christmas party. tis the season!

oh, and Pen, i believe my answer went something like this "uh, yeah its all good" or something equally r-tarded as my face turned the colour of a beet.

from now on all troubles will be out of sight

i'm so tired of hearing about tiger woods...surely there is something newsworthy happening somewhere in the world. i am far from above reading celebrity gossip but i do it on an actual gossip site. not cnn.

besides, its not him but his poor humiliated wife who is suffering.

so there's a dude at work - a professional who creeps out all the women. he's a boob looker and a close talker - like major personal space issues. anyway - in addition to coming over and asking me a totally unnecessary question, he asked me how he looked.

by itself, by any other person, it would have been an innocent question but coming from him - it felt downright dirty. ick. gross.

first i get hit on by a woman, now a creepy dude at work is asking me about his outfit.

what is wrong with me???

and please, do not let me go

work was beyond weird today. it was like someone died. it was so quiet.

there was a meeting in which management did their necessary evil speech which i actually buy because you can tell from the stats we are not as strong as past years and they genuinely seemed very upset at having to do it.

our department is not small but because it is very team oriented it is very family like and a couple of the associates had been with the firm for quite a while.

we ended up cancelling our lunch because no one was really in the mood to celebrate though we are going to reschedule.

there is nothing on tv on Tuesday nights - guess i'll go read.
